Amy Carseldine, Special Counsel (Native Title and Cultural Heritage)

Amy is a specialist native title and Aboriginal cultural heritage lawyer. She has led the negotiation of native title agreements, managed native title claims and acted on complex native title and cultural heritage litigation. Amy advises on all aspects of native title, cultural heritage and Aboriginal land rights law, including law reform. Amy has extensive experience working for a range of clients including energy, mining and critical minerals and infrastructure proponents, government and traditional owners. Amy is particularly interested in the interaction between native title, human rights and ESG. Amy is interested in how native title and Aboriginal cultural heritage considerations intersect with approvals for mining operations. She will share insights on navigating the complex approvals landscape while balancing the rights of traditional owners, regulatory requirements, and project development needs.

Jon Prentice, Special Counsel (Energy & Resources)

Jon is a special counsel in Clayton Utz's energy and resources team and a highly experienced lawyer in regulatory regimes applicable to energy and resources projects. He has supported many mineral and petroleum businesses on all facets of energy and resources projects, in particular land access, regulatory approvals, compliance, competition and corporate governance. Jon is particularly interested in the regulatory and land access challenges that arise in securing water approvals for mining projects. He will present on the practical pathways for navigating approvals processes and mitigating risks associated with regulatory scrutiny and stakeholder objections.

Patrick Byrne, Senior Associate (Environment & Sustainable Development)

Patrick is a senior associate in Clayton Utz's environment and sustainable development team. Patrick regularly acts for both private and public sector clients in a range of planning and environmental matters, including large infrastructure projects, resource and renewables projects, Planning and Environment Court and Land Court proceedings, and advising in relation to development applications and land use development including infrastructure charging and agreements. Patrick's litigation experience covers a wide variety of matters, ranging from master planned communities to resource projects and environmental issues. Patrick is interested in how water approvals intersect with planning and environmental frameworks, and how proponents can effectively manage related challenges in mining operations.
