Young Mining Professionals Vancouver is pleased to host a virtual fireside chat series, hosting senior executives for a discussion about their careers, their companies and their perspectives on the impact of the current pandemic on the mining industry and the overall market environment.
We are excited to host Don Lindsay, President & CEO of Teck Resources Limited as our next guest, on Thursday, May 14, 2020. Tara Hassan, Director, Mining Content & Strategy at VRIFY, will moderate the discussion, which will include a brief Q&A session at the end.
Donald R. Lindsay - President & CEO, Teck Resources Limited
Don Lindsay is President and Chief Executive Officer of Teck Resources Limited, Canada’s largest diversified resource company. He is currently Chair of the International Council of Mining and Metals, Chair of the Business Council of Canada, and a Director of Manulife Financial Corporation. He also serves on the Board of Directors for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, York House School, and is an Honorary Governor of the Royal Ontario Museum.
Prior to joining Teck, Mr. Lindsay was President of CIBC World Markets Inc., led the bank’s Investment and Corporate Banking Division, the Asia Pacific Region, and was founder of CIBC’s Global Mining Group.
He is a graduate of Queens University (B.Sc., Hons.) and Harvard Business School (MBA), and has been the recipient of an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Windsor and Honorary Doctorate of Technology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
Tara Hassan - Director, Mining Content & Strategy, VRIFY
Tara Hassan is the Director, Mining Content & Strategy for VRIFY Technology Inc. Prior to joining VRIFY she was a mining equity research analyst focused on small to mid-capital explorers, developers and producers in the precious metals space for nearly 13 years. During her time as analyst Tara worked at a range of investment dealers from boutique to large banks, with her research being disseminated to global institutional investors.
Before entering the financial services industry, Tara worked as a mining engineer for Inco (now Vale) and Placer Dome (now Barrick Gold). At these companies, she held operating, engineering and project-focused roles, working at eight different mines and gaining experience in a wide variety of underground and open-pit mining situations.
Tara is a Professional Engineer (Ontario) and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
